very slow preclear - single drive

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

just trying to get unraid set up on my N54L. disclaimer - i am a linux/unraid total rookie, but have been going along just fine through guides and this forum up till now.

I have 2 x 2TB HDDs (seagate NAS drive and seagate barracuda) , both brand new and unused, in my n54. i have got unraid latest 5.x build, and unmenu and the preclear script.

the NAS drive precleared just fine - in 20 odd hours. the barracuda i am having troubles with. the pre-read goes fine @ 150-200 MB/s. when it gets to step 2 - copying zeros - the speed drops down to 4.7 MB/s and it is going to take many many days to complete at this rate. and anyway, i fear there is a problem. p.s. i have tried the preclear 3 times now - stopped it at 20 odd % using ctrl-c and rebooted server from GUI each time.

I have modded the n54l BIOS following the many guides available, and also checked several times the drive is not using IDE or ide emulation or whatever (to the best of my knowledge). can anyone offer any suggestions as to what i might try next? I have searched extensively and tried a couple things (only info really was around IDE drives, and mine appears to be ok in that area).

I got onto mymain on unmenu, and dumped the system logs for the drives it gives you, and they are attached. perhaps if you need anymore info please let me know and how to get it :)

also i have another niggling issue - unmenu access (//tower:8080) is really hit and miss. i have put the script for start into the boot file following the wiki, and i have tried killing the gui from the console and going at it again (I havent rebooted system as i wanted to preserve syslogs for the preclear problem). typically after i kill the gui using the command from the wikii can get into unmenu and go to maybe...4 or 5 screens? then it reverts to giving me the location unavailable message in the browser. throughout all this, normal tower gui works just fine, never had an issue there. any ideas>?

thanks guys, really apprecaite the support and information available so far!
