  1. I just upgraded my server from 5.0rc16c to 5.0 final and everything was smooth, no issues whatsoever. So I thought I'd add my "me too" post and just say thanks to Tom for all the hard work that went into this release.
  2. I did not reinflate it, so that may be the issue. I'll try that possibly tonight after a preclear is complete on a new drive. Also, on the flash drive, I replaced license.txt, make_bootable.bat, memtest, menu.c32, readme.txt, and syslinux.exe in addition to the 3 files mentioned. The others shouldn't matter with the exception of the menu.c32 file which I think has the new safe mode option. Within the VMDK, I replaced the 3 files, plus memtest and menu.c32. Inside the VMDK are only those 5 files. I figure I did something wrong somewhere because RC15a is working good for everyone else. I'll try your inflate suggestion when the server is in a state to shutdown. Thanks, Jesse
  3. I'm having an issue with the upgrade from RC12a to RC15a. After copying/replacing all of the files (bzimage, bzroot, syslinux.cfg), my config will not boot. I run a VM of unRAID using ESXi and I updated the files on both the VMDK and the USB flash drive to be sure. It hangs after displaying "SYSLINUX 3.72 2008-09-25 EBIOS Copyright © 1994-2008 H. Peter Anvin". I have a few plugins still installed (VMtools and unmenu) which I haven't disabled, but it isn't even starting to boot. Everything worked fine in RC12a, is there something that I did wrong? Thanks, Jesse
  4. Amazon has the Western Digital 3TB Red drives for $134.99 right now. http://www.amazon.com/WD-Red-NAS-Hard-Drive/dp/B008JJLW4M
  5. Were you able to find a changelog anywhere for what changed in the P16 version of the firmware? I looked through the LSI zip file and the only changelog I could find was the SAS2FLASH changelog and they only changed the copyright display date from 2012 to 2013.
  6. I'm wondering if the problem with the 3x M1015 cards and Ivy Bridge was fixed in the refresh of the Supermicro MB. I'm running the X9SCM-IIF-O motherboard with the Xeon E3-1230V2 Ivy Bridge CPU. I just installed my third M1015 card last night and was worried that I'd have problems like rockdawg had. I passed through all three controllers to unRAID. I put at least one drive on each of the controllers, and it was able to see all of the drives. I haven't done any parity checks though because I'm still configuring my system and haven't actually added the parity drive to the array yet. I'm copying all of my data over and will do that when I'm done just because I'm assuming it copies faster if it doesn't have to calculate parity. From what I gathered though, the problem was that the third card wasn't even visible in the unRAID VM.
  7. The WD 3TB Red drive is on sale for the next 48 hours on NewEgg. This is the lowest price I've seen for this drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236344 Promo Code: EMCYTZT31569
  8. Beautiful. I wasn't sure exactly because my other NIC is passed thru and doesn't show up in EDXi currently. That makes it super easy. Thanks. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  9. I also get that error. I haven't dug into the logs or anything mostly because I haven't noticed anything not working yet.
  10. Sorry, I wasn't referring to you doing a passthru. I believe that it was Johnm in the ATLAS thread that I followed for the ESXi setup. The only reason that I did it was because I was just following the directions there since this is my first experience with ESXi. As BetaQuasi says though, I don't think its an optimal solution for my use case. @BetaQuasi, I was leaning towards going back to your exact suggestion. For a while I did have it running of the VMXNET3 adapter and it worked fine, which was why I started questioning the passthru of the NIC. I haven't done it yet, but in the network configuration section, it looks like you can configure how the virtual NICs link to the physical NICs. So, to optimize bandwidth on the NICs, it seems it would make sense to have two VMXNET3 adapters linked to the two real ones on the MB. Then the two virtual NICs would connect to a vSwitch so that all local traffic stays on the box. Does that sound right?
  11. Hi all, I've got a new system up and running with ESXi 5.1 and unRAID. I'm still in the process of fully populating HDDs and stuff, but its running good so far. I have a quick question about networking and what the "best" way to do it is for a VM of unRAID. I have the Supermicro X9SCM-IIF-O motherboard that has 2 on board NICs and a dedicated IPMI NIC. I read in the excellent ATLAS thread that he did a passthru of the NIC, which is how I currently have it configured on my box. I'm going to be adding at least one more VM (a Ubuntu one) and it will use the unRAID VM a lot, so I want the two VMs to be able to communicate via the virtual 10Gb NIC. So, what is the best way to configure the networking in this case? The unRAID box is used for the standard things mostly, streaming videos, music etc, so I like to allow it to have its own NIC for bandwidth considerations. But I also want the VMs to be able to communicate fast. I haven't setup the other VM yet, but I was looking to see what the community's suggestions are for setting up the NICs for the VMs. Thanks, Jesse
  12. I also wanted to say thanks. I just got unRAID up and going on ESXi yesterday and you VMDK helped alot. Jesse
  13. Tom put up an RC12a because of a networking issues. Does this plugin need to be rebuilt for the RC12a or is the current one good to go? Thanks, Jesse
  14. Thanks for that. I was looking at the X9SCM-F mobo, but then I saw a post that mentioned the updated version X9SCM-IIF. I think that's what you're using from what I saw in a post a few pages back. With that mobo and ivy bridge, it should be good. Then I'm leaning toward getting the m1015's right now just because of issues I've read about on this forum with the SAS2-MV8, Ivy Bridge, and the supermicro mobo. I'll keep an eye on eBay to see if I can score a good price on the cards. Thanks, Jesse
  15. That's great news about the ivy bridge. Thanks everyone for responding. How about a followup question? What do you think of the SAS2-MV8 cards vs the m1015s? I'd rather not have to mess with eBay and flashing if I don't have to. But I've also been reading about people having problems with the MV8 cards and rc11 and parity check speeds with that mobo. Your speeds seem pretty good, so maybe there's some hope. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
