WeeboTech
Please add conveyance test to SMART Tests for drives For drives that support it, the conveyance test is usually a one time test for drives that have been recently shipped and will be newly added to the array. It's a good first time test for new drives to check against shipping damage http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. Conveyance Intended as a quick test to identify damage incurred during transporting of the device from the drive manufacturer to the computer manufacturer.[49] Only available on ATA drives, and it usually takes several minutes. This thread has a perfect example of it's purpose. Preclear Results (Why I don't buy from NewEgg anymore) http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36708.0 And just for consolidation. /usr/sbin/smartctl -t conveyance /dev/sd? where ?= device id. It will tell you how long it will take, usually 4-6 minutes. Then capture smartlogs and post again with /usr/sbin/smartctl -a /dev/sd? Not sure if I did this correctly, but here goes: smartctl 6.2 2013-07-26 r3841 [i686-linux-3.9.11p-unRAID] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Western Digital Red (AF) Device Model: WDC WD30EFRX-68EUZN0 Serial Number: WD-WCC4N5RAD077 LU WWN Device Id: 5 0014ee 2604e83cc Firmware Version: 82.00A82 User Capacity: 3,000,592,982,016 bytes [3.00 TB] Sector Sizes: 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical Rotation Rate: 5400 rpm Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ACS-2 (minor revision not indicated) SATA Version is: SATA 3.0, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 3.0 Gb/s) Local Time is: Sat Dec 13 15:32:37 2014 EST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. jonp
Weebo, As usual, awesome write up and very thorough explanation of your request. Can I ask how this would appear in the webGui ideally? Is this something that would just be another self-test like the short/extended tests? This would be manually invoked by the user, right? Quote Link to comment
WeeboTech
This would be another test line item like short & long test, Perhaps as conveyance with a ? pointing to a help screen which identifies what it is for. Not all drives support it. You can tell if a drive supports it by issuing the smartctl -a and looking if it says conveyance test supported. Quote Link to comment
