  1. Frank1940 thanks for pointing out about the dual rail and only needing a single rail. Something I had totally overlooked. For the small additional cost I think I will up the size of the SSD. Is the i5 going to be over kill for streaming/trans-coding multiple films at once?
  2. About a month ago I started running an old HP DL380 G5 Server running windows server 2008. Just found out it runs at around 130W at idle So time for an upgrade of hardware and to start running unRAID. I have 3 main criteria: 1. Be power efficient. 2. Central storage of media (films/music/TV Shows) 3. Be able to run plex media server and stream to multiple 3-4 devices at once. (Xbox 360, PS3, raspberry pi running rasplex, Ipads, Macbook. So looking for some advice on weather this hardware list will meet my requirements. Mobo - Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI CPU - Intel Core i5 4570 3.20GHz Case - Fractal Design Arc Mini Pc Case Drives - WD 3TB Green Desktop Drive (Parity, data) SSD - Sandisk 64GB Pulse SSD (Cache) RAM - Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Memory Power - Coolermaster Elite Power 500W Fully Wired Efficient Power Supply Cooling - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 http://www.ebuyer.com/lists/list/408527 Happy to take advice on weather there are better options for my money. Thanks in advance Russell
  3. Yep 100% sure it's a SFF8484 on the drive bay. Cheers for the link.
  4. I am after a little help, I have a 4 port sata controller card fitted to my server. The drive bay has a SFF-8484 connector on it. I am looking for a cable to connect the drive bay to the controller. Due to not being able to find a cable I am starting to wonder if it is even possible to connect the 2 together. Russell
  5. Many thanks WeeboTech for taking the time to reply. I have tried configuring each drive as it own RAID0 array, but due to a strange feature of the card it wont recognize none HP drives. Hence another reason for looking down the route of a new controller. I am not familiar with ESX, so unfortunately that would of not been an option. I am mainly looking to use the server for plex media server. StevenD - Server will be located in the garage so noise is not a problem.
  6. I'm new here so apologies if I have chosen the wrong forum. I have been given a never used HP DL380 G5 server 2.66GHz Dual-Core Xeon, 4GB Ram and I am looking at using it for unRAID. From what I have read the HP Smart Array P400 card cannot be used with unRAID. I currently only have 3 x 1TB hard drives. I am looking for a cheap 4 port sata controller card compatible with unRAID. I have looked through the compatible hardware list but unsure which card would be my best option. Budget is only currently limited to the £30 mark. Cheers Russell
