  1. allright, when you're gonna go the Virtual way, maybe read this topic, (it's long i know) http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14695.0 but maybe take another starting point (not only based on a specific cpu) how many drives do you want to start with? and to how many drives are you want to grow in the end? is the cpu and mainbord fully compatible with all the functions like hardware passthrough. Unraid as a virtual machine together with a few other VM's requires well chosen hardware and maybe makes your setup unnecessary difficult.
  2. Hello, nice cpu, but what are gonna do with a i7 cpu and Unraid? is this necessary? Multiple Virtual Machines project? in most cases you choose a low power / budget cpu because all that cpu power is mostly overkill Cpu-compability can be usually found on the websites of the manufacturers.
  3. maybe on the main page? :-) http://www.lime-technology.com/download
  4. Just giving some feedback on my rig with Beta 11 copy-ing and moving large amounts of data from disk share to disk-share crashes this version. keeping the selected data below 20 to 25 GB everything goes fine. The shares disappear and even the gui isnt available anymore only a hard reset wil bring it back alive. then it hangs a very long time on ''starting.....'' have reproduced this same error a few times now no plug-ins ,no add-ons , no simple features just plain basic Beta 11
  5. NOOOO WAY!! ??? Thnx It worked,!! Stupid Internet Explorer, never saw that coming as a possible solution
  6. Maybe a stupid question, but i only can dowload a .tar file from the dropbox from user Stokkes. put it on the flash drive, in an ''extra'' directory an tried the installpkg command ''installpkg plex-0.3-i386-unRAID.tar'' and get this error in Telnet box ''Cannot install plex-0.3-i386-unRAID.tar: file does not end in .tgz, .tbz, .tlz, or .txz'' a .tar file is by my knowledge a kind of compressed file/package RAR / ZIP file. So i tried With 7-Zip and winRaR to see with kind of uncompressed file it would output (maybe a .tgz file) and it did'nt.
  7. Those hotswap bays have 2 molex power connectors each to power the 5 drives inside
  8. @Mikechy Got mine today here in Belgium, WOW that's quick!! Thankx again. first question also: what about that 8 pin connector?
  9. I pulled this off, did i remember my steps wrong? When i remember it's possible that i moved the data from the '' to be removed" drives first to the other drives. Then these steps would be fine?
  10. Yess, we understand each other - the steps i mentioned should be right then. I pulled this off not so long ago also with 4.7 and the 5 drive PLUS Licence. Actual data on it + - 4TB , the raid array being 9TB parity 2TB disk1 2TB disk2 2TB disk3 2TB disk4 1.5TB disk5 1.5TB Cache 2TB I could sell my 2 1.5TB for a good price to change them in time for 2TB's or bigger , of course i pulled 1 drive at a time Now the raid array is 6TB Another question i have for you: What is your main goal with that SSD? Because setting up a only share was also possible with that 300GB drive If you have the place in your case and enough sata ports you can also think about to assign that WD3200AAKS as a cache drive.
  11. No, you don't have a communication problem The reply was more meant in general. Are we not expecting too much for this low price ?? I now read your Edit: YES AND YES for me also
  12. Not sure because of no experience with 3TB drives but maybe Raj can help me out here: 2.2TB is that magical limit for traditional allocation of file systems with a traditional bios-chip Above this you need a newer type of Bios Chip: EFI Chip or firmware upgrade like with those Supermicro cards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface When i look at Biostar's website i don't see them mentioning an EFI bios chip or 3TB support. So most likely 3TB Hdd's direct attached drives will be recognized as maximum 2.2TB. Raj? community? am i right?
  13. I'am also playing and enjoying UnRaid for only a few month's now, and i must say: Never have been more enthusiastic over a NAS product. Tried many worst case scenario's of failing hardware and UnRaid did not let me down. Having a history with failing Netgear,Synology and Qnap home NAS solutions. and losing data > Or not being able to have the flexibility with disks and array like UnRaid has. Maybe UnRaid is not the easiest in the beginning: Read and you will learn: The active community full of enthousiast's is also part of the succes i guess. For how Small Lime Technology is : i think they and everyone surrounding in the (non paid) community are doing a really good job. I know a lot huge brands with hundreds or thousands employees where you pay a lot more for less options and get less support and updates. There is a saying: When you pay peanuts , you get monkeys. With UnRaid i don't have this feeling. We all get really much for really a few bucks. Most of us only buy a (in my opinion) cheap UnRaid licence for a really great product : Nothing really on the market compared to it. Oke : We are a year in Beta and Development to a higher version takes maybe longer then those huge brands. But keep in mind: better a good stable version than a unfinished product. Just my opinion.
  14. Thnx for the invite Kizer ;D
  15. Looking fine. Maybe choose the Energy Efficient version of that series cpu (less heat and lower electrical bill) that CPU power is more than enough for 90% of UnRaid add-ons http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264382 about the harddrives: The Hitachi's sounds to be the community's favourite for the moment. The 2TB's have got the best price/performance. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9865.0 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=10388.0 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-Deskstar-Stainless-Internal-0F12117/dp/B004NCL3I4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1311527070&sr=8-2
