  1. Hello Squid, Thanks for the code. Sorry about the belay response. I didn't have time to work on it until now. I build the pcb board and ready to test it out. when I try you code above, echo -n -e '\xff' > /dev/lp0 nothing happen. the root@tower: command prompt return right away. So I figured that the parallel port was not enable in the BIOS. I shut down the server and go into BIOS setup and enable LPT1 as standard LPT. Reboot again. start the server and log on and run the echo script again. This time the command line hang and would not return root@tower:# I have to do a control C for it to return. any idea why ?. thanks
  2. Hello, my server have 3 standard fans that run all the time. would it be nice to have them turn off when all hard drive spin down ? if some one can write a scrip or code to do just that it would be really great. it would reduce 4W of power consumption and wear and tear on the fans and noise There is a small relay that take about 2mA @5V to turn on. this relay could in turn use to turn on the hard drive cooling fan. basic operation: when all hard drive have spin down then send all zero to LPT1. if a hard drive spin up then send all 1 to LPT1. it's that simple. in return I can send you a circuit board fully populated with relay and connector to make you time worth while.
  3. Hello, I have a question direct at Garycase,: it's seem that you power down your primary server instead of keep it online. is there a reason that you do that other than to save power usage or was it some other reason ?. I keep my online 24/7 and available at all time. I try to build the server with lowest idle power as I can so I can keep it online all the time.
  4. RiceBowl parts list: MB: GA-F2A88XM-D3HP Power supply : Thermaltake, 500W, 80+, custom wireharness CPU: AMD A6 7400K 3.9GHz memory: DDR3-1600 2G single stick Flash drive: San disk cruzer fit 8GB (love this little guy. fit neatly behind the case) case: Old solid AT case, heavily gutted and modified fan: 3ea 120mm front case mounted. HHD cage: custom build, 8 slots stack (data drive) plus 2 slot separate stack (parity and personal) HHD; Toshiba X300 6TB, SATA III, Toshiba 2TB, P300, SATA III. idle power: 62W.
  5. Hello, I'm in process of bringing my back up server, code name "RiceBowl", online to relief my primary server, code name "Chopstick" which due for major maintenance and hardware replacement after long service time. RiceBowl is a brand news system, new MB, new Power supply, new Memory, new CPU, new flash drive with brand new hard drive of 3ea, 6TB Toshiba X300, 7200RPM SATAIII plus a 2TB Toshiba P300, 7200 RPM SATA III. All sparkling new parts. I'm expect it to be in operational for the next 10 years with minimal maintenance. The drives is in parity sync. The speed is 193 MB/sec. top speed was in + 200MB/sec speed was slowing down to around 110MB/sec when near the 2TB mark, then it shot up to 193mb after that. preclear speed were some time reach 214 MB/sec. I normally do just 1 preclear cycle. I'm wondering if new MB design or better electronic in the Toshiba or low hard drive counts or some thing but the speed is awfully fast compare to Chopstick performance which around 30MB/sec (with top speed of 50MB/sec) Chopstick drive are 4TB and 2TB, all 7200RPM of different brand name. Chopstick parity sync is around 25 hours. RiceBowl parity sync is set to complete around 9 hours. I'm not bragging nor complaining just noticing that the speed is pretty fast compare to V5 and wonder if it due to new MB and SATAIII design or is it V6 L
  6. One more thing, I GOT THE MAIL Thingy work !!!!!... on 6.3.2. YE!!!!!!.
  7. Hello, Restart the server. same problem. However thanks to Squid, I am able to look at the email set up via mail.ssmtp-unmenu-package.conf and able to get the info that I am looking for . I did try note pad but it's better to view it in the MS xcel as it process delimiter better than note pad. Many thanks to all help.
  8. Hi, I'm sorry. I am actually use the following: http://chopstick:8080 http://chopstick/unmenu both fails with refuse to connect. I referred "tower" because every one familiar with tower naming convention. I'm apology for the confusing. I think for some reason unmenu got shutdown due to some error at some point so that's is why I could not access it. I did not receive my normal hourly update today either. So I think I'll just do a shutdown and restart and see what happen. I'll post a sys.log after if I'm not successful in getting unmenu. on a side note: compare to what we have back then to what we have now in V6 is like we were in the caveman time back then eh ?
  9. Hello Itimpi, I'm not running unmenu on the 6.3.2. I'm not planninng to run unmenu on 6.3.2. The unmenu is running on the 5.0.4 I 'm merely trying to access the 5.0.4 unmenu to extract all the configuration of the 5.0.4 email setup so that I can use config data to set up email on 6.3.2. via 6.3.2 integrated email . I happened to look at sys.log last night before sleep. it's seem that unmenu some time got shut down, so I'll issue a shutdown and then restart and see if I can access unmenu to extract the email config tonight. I did look in the config file on the flash but I didn't get far much because I would know where the config store at. if some one know how to I would appreciated a direction.
  10. Hello, My server 5.0.4 run successfully for many years. Aside from 1 red ball failure, the server ran flawlessly throughout these years. I configured unmenu back then to add UPS backup and emailing. I have just begin to build a second server in anticipating the current server will soon fail due to old age and have install unraid 6.3.2. From 6.3.2 I'm trying to set up the email thingy. However I got authorization fail problem. That when I want to get to unmenu on the current server to see what I did there to get the 5.0.4 to send me updated. thing like name and email server and login info. etc... but when I try tower:8080 I got tower refuse to connect. when I click on the log icon on main menu I have this /usr/bin/tail -f /var/log/syslogMar 2 00:35:35 chopstick unmenu-status: Exiting unmenu web-server, exit status code = 2Mar 2 00:35:35 chopstick unmenu[3269]: unmenu.awk unable to open port. It may already be runningMar 2 00:35:45 chopstick unmenu-status: Starting unmenu web-serverMar 2 00:35:47 chopstick unmenu[3269]: awk: ./unmenu.awk:1722: fatal: division by zero attemptedMar 2 00:35:47 chopstick unmenu-status: Exiting unmenu web-server, exit status code = 2Mar 2 00:35:47 chopstick unmenu[3269]: unmenu.awk unable to open port. Thanks you
  11. Hello, is unraid 5.04 support 6TB ? Thanks for your help.
  12. Hello, After years of running smoothly, I'm about to upgrade my drives from 2T to 4T. A quick check at the community show that a "STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO UPGRADE TO V6" is called for. So I would like to upgrade my server from 5.0.4 to V6. So from 5.0.4 should I do a clean install or should I upgrade ? Do I need to upgrade then run new permission ? I don't mess with my server at all for a long time, so I kind inexperience/ don't remember what to do/nervously. can you hand holding me ? Thanks
  13. My server is for my family use only and are not to share with any one outside home network it is to use only within the confine of my home network. I don't have anything thing fancy. I do have umenu installed. UPS monitor and warning via sending email installed. wake on lan. I don't know what is a docker container or sabnz thinggy, apache server, mysql that people mention here a lot. I don't use them. How do I NOT allow web interface and unmenu to access from internet. Thanks for helping.
