  1. Thanks for your reply. I tried again. Just plugged in power, HDMI and keyboard. No beeps, nothing on monitor, no Caps or NumLock light on keyboard. CPU fan is spinning and the power pins are working. A bit disappointed myself. It seems so simple, there is not much I could have done wrong here .... I have the same board. It has CW-N5105-NAS Ver. 1.0 printed on it.
  2. their support suggested that I need 2666MHz RAM rather then the one I have that is supposed to be compatible with 2666MHz. Anyway, I ordered some and we will have to wait now.
  3. Yes, there is a buzzer on the board, but it keeps quiet. Thanks for your help.
  4. unfortunately it gives no sign of life. Removed it from the case, removed RAM, removed all connectors except the power. The CPU fan spins up, but nothing else happens. No beep at all. The PSU has the 24 and 8 pin power cords where the 8pin splits into 2 x 4 pin. Does it matter which of the 4pin plugs is used? I know I need the 24 + 4 pin connected.
  5. Here is my first problem. The board does not start! - I installed the memeory on the board. - Plugged in the power 24 pin and 4 pin - connected the case power switch and power leds - connected the case fan to the board - no disks or usb connected when I switch the power on, the case fans start, the power led on the front of the case lights up, the case fans are running. Light in the netowork port is flikering where I plugged in the cable. But there is no video output, no beep, the fan in PSU is not running and I am not sure the fan on the CPU is running. Where do I go from here?? Thanks
  6. After my long standing setup finally gave in, this is my attempt at building a new tower to manage my home media and home automation needs. Previous build is here: I like that case and want to reuse it. The case and the disks are going to move to the new server. The rest is new... Hardware: Case: Lian Li PC-Q25 Black Hot Swap Mini Tower Case Board: Topton NAS N5105 (printed on the board: CW-N5105-NAS Ver, 1.0) (link AliExpress) (manufacturer?) RAM: Crucial 16GB DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFRA32A (link Amazon) (link manufacturer) PSU: Lian Li SP750 SFX Gold 750W Modular Power Supply Black (link) (link manufacturer) Disk: 4x 4TB WD Red (2 data xfs, 1 parity) (+1 as hot spare, pre cleared, waiting) Cache Pool: 2x 500 GB Samsung SSD 860 EVO USB: Cruzer Fit (8GB) UPS: CyberPower Value SOHO UPS 1000VA/550W
  7. I came across this NAS build video that could pretty much be my next build and hopefully fit into the Lian Li Case. using this board https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004761498719.html what do you all think?
  8. Hi, I have reset all the cables and restarted. then stopped the array - removed the parity disk from the configuration started array - no parity but all good stopped array - added parity disk back to the array started array and the disk got disabled again. there are some write errors in the logs. I have a spare disk, maybe it is time to swap them over? Could you please have a look at the diagnostics again? (the SSH errors are gone) tower-diagnostics-20230326-1548.zip
  9. Thanks guys. Yes I saw the ssh issue, need to fix that. I had some issues with the tower a while back, took it out and reset all the cables. It fixed the startup issues but might have introduced this issue. I will repeat the process and try again. I has all worked fine for years. I know, I know, time for an upgrade / rebuild.
  10. I hope someone can help me find out why the parity drive got disabled. My guess is the CRC errors but I would like some confirmation. Diagnostics attached. Also, what next? Thanks in advance! tower-diagnostics-20230323-2018.zip
  11. thanks for your suggestions on the motherboards. Some seem to be out of stock and also rather expensive here in Australia. IPMI is not much of a requirement here as the box is standing next to the TV that still has the VGA input and a keyboard can be added in no time. But 7+ sata certainly is a requirement.
  12. Thanks, I have reset all the power cables and now it is all running again. But it gave me a good wakeup call to get started with some replacement hardware. I want to keep the case but replace everything else (except the disks). The motherboard needs to be able to handle at least one more disk. More ram and better CPU would also be nice. Maybe an extra NIC to use one for firewall or similar would also be good. Better start looking around soon...
  13. Thanks, I plugged in a screen and I have a little speaker (must have come with the case maybe) but nothing on either of them. I will spend some time taking everything out of the case and resetting the connections....
  14. It has been a good 8 years ! But last week the tower stopped. It won't start anymore. The fan in the PSU and the CPU fan both spin up for a second or two, then spin down and start again. I unplugged the drives but that made no difference. There was no change to the hardware in a long long time and it has been running flawless for all these years. Maybe it is just time to refresh. I don't have any spare parts around. Does anyone have a good idea on how I could troubleshoot what component gave up? my hardware is: Case: Lian Li PC-Q25 Black Hot Swap Mini Tower Case Board: ASUS H87I-PLUS Motherboard CPU: Intel Core i3 4130 RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM (2x4GB) DDR3 PSU: Silverstone ST45SF 450W SFX Disk: 4x 4TB WD Red Cache Pool: 2x 500 GB Samsung SSD 860 EVO (added 1/12/2018) USB: Cruzer Fit (8GB) Any input is greatly appreciated!
