  2. update: the server has now started using the 500gb drive when the 1tb drive hit 243gb (about 1/4of the size). it was my understanding that the highwater was set at 50% of the largest drive? it seems to have been set at 25% in this case. has the highwater mark level been changed? im curently using the 4.5.3 thanks
  3. hi, i have my new unraid box set up now and have been copying my data across from my drives which i shall then add to the server once they have been copied. the problem is i have one share set up that i point my media centre and windows pcs to. which is set up as highwater, the split level is left blank as i dont care about where things end up. but it doesnt seem to be working, the biggest drive just keeps getting used. as you can see in the attached screenie the 1tb drive has been used to to point of only having 300+gb left. shouldnt it have moved onto another drive by now? im wonder if it might be bacause i have left a gap as the drive im goint to install into the second postion is the one im currently moving data from (im trying to keep them in size order so i can find the smallest easily when i upgrade) other than that everything is running great any suggestions?

    The worst luck...

sure, its a very smart looking case. looks like its going to be another week before im up and running though, had to send the faulty motherboard back which then will have to test and then send a new one out.

    The worst luck...

ok so im having the worst luck! so after finally getting together all the hardware i needed for my build i only need an itx mobo and i thought id treat myself to a shinny new case to put it all in (fractal design's 6 drive itx case. great little case) so firstly with the case i couldnt find it in stock in anyone of my normal places so i went with a company that had 1 in stock. so i ordered it for next day delivery aswel as my mobo(from a different company) and that evening i got a phone call from the case company saying there had been an accident with my order and the packaging was alittle "bashed" and that he was sending an email with a picture to see if it was still ok to send... so i get the email and it basically looked like it had a truck drive over it... i replied saying i didnt believe the item was still intact in the box. he replied the next morning saying on further inspection the case had pretty much been crushed (my mobo arrived as expected... so i got a refund and was lucky that one of my normal goto places just got no stock so i ordered and that arrived todo no problem. so i installed the mobo into the case and just did a test boot before installing the other hardware... and all i could get was "no signal" on the monitor... ive ran every test i can think of (tried a few different sticks of ram incase its fussy, tried a pci graphics card and still get the same. tried a different psu, checked the cmos jumper was in the correct place aswel as did a wipe and so on..) so it appears that i have a dud and will have to send it back for a replacement. which i wont be able todo until after the weekend now so its going to be in the middle of next week at the earliest before another arrives not sure what i did to annoy the data gods but they dont appear to want me to have my data protected thats got to be my share of bad luck though right? -Ryan
  6. hi, i know there are alot of split level and share related question but i didnt seem to find what i needed. basically i just want unraid to be one big volume and i dont want to deal with different disks and whats on them as such. which i know i can basically do with a user share. i shall just make a share called "unraid" or something which can just mount on my systems and then then just make the directories within that folder for what i need. my current set up is 1tb party, 3x1tb and a 250gb and a 120gb. im unsure of which split level to use, im not too concerned about where things are on acutal disks aslong as i have access to the total pool of storage. so no matter if im storing something in say //tower/unraid/ or //tower/unraid/media/tv_recordings . i also dont want too many drives spinning up. so if for example i am looking at folder of picture i dont want picture 1 to be on disk 1 and picture 2 to be on disk 2 and 3 on disk 3 and so on so every drive is spinning up just to view them. would i be correct in thinking that if i set the share to split level 0 and also to high water. disk 1 would fill up to half (and therefore the only drive spunup) and then at half way move on to drive 2 and fill that drive to half way and so on. what im trying to avoid is dragging my collection of family photos and having picture 1 stored on disk 1 and picture 2 one disk 2 and picture 3 on disk 3.. and so on. or for another example would the files in the folder in share //tower/unraid/tv_recordings from from disk 1 to 2 when it hit the high water? or what i get an out of space error all the recordings would be in the root of tv_recordings thanks
  7. hi i was wondering if anyone had used one of this mobos? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200893 it only has 2 sata ports onboard, but also has a pci-e x1 slot which i believe i could use to add 4 more ports?. im having a hard time finding a decent mitx mobo here in the uk
  8. yes i was hoping to use this case http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/pc-cases/fd-array-black i like the amount of drives it holds for the size
  9. hi, im currently looking for a mother board to base am unraid system around. i plan on building a system which can scale to 6 drives. ive found a nice case that will do the job and have the drive. just need to find a good motherboard option, i dont plan on doing anything other than serving files / streaming video with it. i dont need a bit torrent server or anything else like that, so an atom will do the job. ive been looking at two options right now which are http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=47#jnc92 with the added daughterboard this motherboard would have 6 sata so would do the job in that respect. the cpu is only a single core atom230 has anyone had any success with one of these? another option is this one http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=53#ION-ITX-G it has 4 sata and a pci-e which i could use to expand with. another thing is, i really do want to be able to put the unraid machine into s3 sleep. these boards arnt on the hardware list and i cant find any posts about them. (unless ive missed them) any input or other suggestions would be great id rather go with a tested board than on that im not sure about. oh and it needs to be a itx formfactor for the case i plan on using thanks
