  1. Just finished parity check. All seems good. Zero errors. Well I guess it was the RAM.
  2. So I woke up to my the unraid computer on, but nothing on the attached screen (total black - said no cable connected) and the web GUI on my house computer not pulling it up. Restarted the unraid, worked fine and started a parity check then 12 hours later same thing happened. My motherboard has a digital readout with error codes and said that the RAM was bad. So I just replaced the RAM cleared my MOBO CMOS and fired it up. It's working and again running a parity check. Here's my log file if anyone can let me know if there's any indication of what went wrong I'd appreciate it. Thanks. tower-diagnostics-20240318-1917.zip
  3. Ok tried understanding that thread. Here's my questions, which I hinted in the original post. I don't mind building a new system and just moving over the HDD. The system I built originally was just parts; meaning I didn't follow a build thread or look at approved components. Then later on I realized that the 20 HDD hot swap case I have has a not so good backplane. So can you direct me to a Up to Date Unraid Server build that can handle 14 Main Drives and 2 Parity drives? Thanks in Advance.
  4. Did a search not sure what to do. One of my disks says 1230 errors. So I ran a Parity-Check and that came back as clean, no errors. So is it just a bad disk? I don't know how to check the smart report. On the dashboard it has a green thumbs up for the SMART column. So what should I do? Also, I've had multiple problems over the years with my hardware setup, nothing major at all just replacing sata boards with more stable ones and bad cables, but it seems as the 20 bay case I have has a not so good backplane. Does anyone make a unraid case with computer and everything that's totally stable, but doesn't come with hard drives? oops forgot the disk log. tower-diagnostics-20211222-1053.zip
  5. Ok. Thanks. Should I put the drive in a new slot and then rebuild that disk? or go a different route?
  6. Ok I just had a drive go with the red X and it's about 6 months old. Can someone look at my log to see why it in an error state? I assume to replace it and rebuild the drive? I have a new one coming and will do that and then warranty the old one. Then I get to put another one in LOL. tower-diagnostics-20211019-1504.zip tower-syslog-20211019-2207.zip
  7. Ok so there's no way to just re-enable it without rebuilding it? If that's the case then something went wrong, right? It didn't just not find that disk missing?
  8. Ok so I switched all the Mini SAS to SATA cables and now I have disk 5 diabled!! So I turned off the server and switched it to a different position and restarted. Still disabled. I turned it off again and switched it to a different level all together that is controlled by the new LSI card and has a mini sas to mini sas and restarted and it's still disabled. Once a drive is disabled do I need to re-enable it before using it again??? How do I do that?
  9. Ok got the new controller and installed it. Added those two new drives and they install fine. Also moved drive 3 to a different SATA slot. During the auto pre-clear it did have a CRC error on one of the new drives; so I cleared it. It's been formatted and up and running for 3-4 days now. I even stopped the array like last time and then restated it and everything looks perfect. No errors what so ever. I DID not change any of the cables I wanted to see if the card was my problem and that bad SATA port. You said that I was getting intermittent disconnects from drive 3. Here is my log I was wondering if you could look at it and see if there are anymore of those interrupts? Or show me an example of what I should be looking for so I can diagnose my own logs...just like my proctologist does. tower-diagnostics-20210530-1053.zip
  10. I know a lot of questions. This should sum what I was asking above. 1. The card I ordered so I just install in and that's it or do I need to install drivers? 2. How do I test it out to see if that was my problem? Install it and re-asign the drives if needed and then add the two new 8TB drives that failed and see if they hold up? 3. Can you tell from my log which drives has the ata errors to see if those are on the SAS2LP card as well so I know if I should change my SATA to Mini SAS cables from the MOBO SATA ports.
  11. Ok I think I've got the hardware figured out. Here's what I bought. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008J49G9A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S7KU3PC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  12. Ok can you help me narrow the problems down as to which hard drives have been getting dropped so I can isolate the cables/slots it coming from? I don't understand the SAS2LP vs. LSI so I'll list my equipment. I have: Norco 4U Rack Mount 20-Bays SATA/SAS Server Chassis RPC-4220 ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 MOBO with 10 Sata Ports going to Sata to Mini SAS cables that go to the backplane that the HDD slide into. Supermicro AOC- SAS2LP-MV8 Card with SAS going to Mini SAS on the backplane. OK, LOL now that I type this I get what you're saying about the SAS2LP. So guide me, that SAS2LP card is supplying the 2 parity drives and 4 to 6 of the hard drives (can't check now as I'm rebuilding the parity). So I should replace that SAS2LP card with an SAS LSI card? I don't know the difference. Thanks. P.S. I'm a little dense today. I get it, the link above cards that are liable. LOL ok got it. Thanks. I'll try replacing the card. Do I need to install drivers for it or is it self installing?
  13. @itimpi I went to the stop button on the main page and hit stop. @JorgeB, crap, ok. I'm using a case that has 20 or so quick slots for hard drives all the "cards" are built in. Two questions, I wonder if I'm having this problem because the system doesn't like that many drives in there? I only say that because I've been using this system virtually problem from for about 10 years. Also, what would you recommend for a case that has those quick slots for hard drives? or maybe a system that's all ready built but missing the HDD? Thanks. P.S. Could it be a problem between the new HDD and the old hardware? Cause right now I'm removing the drives from the system and maybe replace one of the 4TB with it and see it the system stays stable.
