  1. Thanks. Would be nice if the update could download to the Cache or something and then upgrade from there... but I get it. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" 😜
  2. Hi, I'm trying to update my backup/testing server from 6.11.5 to the latest 6.12.6 and I'm getting an error message "boot device shows 348917760 free but upgrade needs 451064841" How big do the flash drives need to be now? There are probably a few flash drives around here I could swap over and use. (The current one is probably 10 years or more old). Thanks for any thoughts.

  4. I kinda figured that, but I thought "better safe..." thanks for the clarification.
  5. So, I've taken the new baby home and installed it to a temporary location. I've started copying files off the old server (after disabling parity and enabling Turbo Writes). So far so good! It's very quiet after installing the new Fractal Design Silent Series fans. Although the originals weren't very noisy to begin with. Actually, I think the most noise comes from the CPU fan. Regardless, it's pretty damn quiet. Once the copying is done I will turn on the parity and run a good few checks to make sure things are good. I will be swapping some hard drives from the old server into the new one once things have been copied. Then I can clean up the wires in the back a bit more. I lucked out and found a UPS on sale. It was more than I wanted to spend, but it will drive both this server and my gaming machine so I'll take it. Here's some more pictures. Not the greatest quality... I wonder how much it would cost to have a professional come in and do some glamour shots? JK.
  6. Hi, I sent you a PM but not sure you got it. I'm interested in the 4TB NAS drives. I'm in Kitchener so I can meet you at a Tim's. Let me know. Sam
  7. Nice. I decided to keep the stock CPU fan and see how it goes. I started up a mem test last week and then ended up onsite at a customer for 5 days. I just got back and the test had completed over 194,000 passes...without any errors. So I think I'm safe there! The CPU temp was at 42C during the testing. I think that's probably OK but I'll keep an eye for now. I also replaced the stock 2 case fans with 3 x Fractal Design Silent Series fans that were on sale on Black Friday. I have 2 pulling in at the front, and 1 pushing out the back. I'll need to look into those fan settings you spoke of and see what speeds they are set to. I don't hear them at all. I just installed 3 x 4TB Seagate Desktop drives (also from Black Friday) and will start preclearing to see what happens. More pictures soon.
  8. The PowerChute program can only base it's "remaining runtime" off of the last time it did a calibration run. In other words, the last time it switched power to battery intentionally to see how fast the battery drains. My guess is that hasn't been done in a while. According to the manual: "Power On and Replace Battery LEDs - Flashing (alternating) - Replace Battery - Battery is in need of charging or is at the end of its usual life and must be replaced." My gut says if your power goes out, that battery isn't going to do squat. So, I would run out and get one.
  9. My $0.02cnd Had he not posted twice so close together I would be OK with it. As stated, it is a good note for the community. I'd probably use a baseball analogy here... 3 strikes and you're out.
  10. Yes, I guessed it was from the previous application of thermal paste. If I decide to use the pack-in heatsink I will clean and reapply. But I'm currently researching other (quieter, more effective) options. Ahhhh "engrish" that makes total sense then. I was scouring the board looking for the "second" 8-pin CPU connection but couldn't find one (obviously). Thanks for your reply.
  11. Started assembly on the unit. A couple pictures for you. I also found what was "open box" about the CPU. The CPU itself was nice and clean but the heatsink had "dry" paste on it. I guess it was worth the $80 saving. I think I will buy an aftermarket quiet version. Any suggestions? Also, not sure what the sticker "Both 8 pins required for Heavy Load Configuration" is talking about. There is only one 8 pin connector under there. Anyone have any ideas?
  12. So there didn't seem to be much issues with the parts list (I'm assuming) so I've ordered all except hard drives. I'll be waiting for Black Friday for that. More updates and build log to follow.
