kciaccio
I am in the process of designing my new server. I want to stay with UNRAID but not sure if that is my best choice. I currently have a 22tB UNRAID server on old version 4.5.4 Pro. My new server will have to take over the duties of my main I7 2600k overclocked computer as a Plex server. Right now my main computer is the Plex server being fed my movie collection vis the UNRAID server. I have up to 6 movies being streamed over my plex at the same time on a pretty consistent basis. I guess my question is can I build an Unraid server that can meet the capabilities to handle being my all in one Plex server/UNRAID server? I want to utilize Bonding/teaming nics to a managed switch on the UNRAID server...on my old UNRAID server this was not possible. Quote Link to comment
tdallen
Sure. There are a number of high end builds spec'd out on the forums here. unRAID has supported NIC bonding since version 5, lots of good info if you use the forum searching for bonding, for instance http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=29341.0. kciaccio
Awesome. Thanks for the response....I have been weighing my options of FreeNAS, Windows 2012R2 and UNRAID. Any input on the other two? I kind of liked the easier install of the PLEX on those. Has there been a performance gain in read and write speeds with UNRAID? Quote Link to comment
tdallen
My main use for RAID is as a media server, and since you mention Plex and movies I assume it's your main use case as well. I've looked carefully at FreeNAS and I think it is overkill for media server implementations. Same for NAS4Free. Obviously I prefer unRAID, though FlexRaid (Windows) and SnapRaid have their merits as well. I don't have access to MS OS distributions these days so I can't help you there, sorry. unRAID read speeds are full disk access speed. Writes are throttled by parity, but I have no issue with write speed. Quote Link to comment

How many HD streams do you think I can theoretically stream at once if my UNRAID server has a I7 over clocked CPU with 32 gigs of ddr3 RAM and a bonded nic with a 20 MB upload internet speed.
