  1. I've been watching this thread for a while now waiting for a sign that the issues have been resolved. While I see a some people have come up with fixes for the problems they ran into, I must say I don't exactly get the "warm fuzzies" reading this thread. What is the status of the Crashplan docker, and how well does it work? From reading this thread, it looks like the primary alternatives to this Docker are: 1) running a Windows VM with the Crashplan client, or 2) waiting for some future plugin or core feature that includes Crashplan support by Lime Tech (is there any more information on that- I can't find references to it).
  2. Congrats on the release! I recently updated to the v6-RC series after being on v4.7 for a long time. It's a big improvement- even for my relatively simple needs.
  3. try running a ping from telnet to confirm you've got internet connectivity, other than that I suppose you could update manually by replacing bzimage & bzroot. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm able to ping google from my unRAID box. Can you imagine some way user error could be at fault here? All I'm doing is hitting the Check for Updates button.
  4. I'm still having trouble updating. I'm on rc4, but checking for plugin updates still says unRAID is up-to-date. Do plugins impact whether you see an unRAID update?
  5. It should be able to... I've used the auto-updater before, and I've installed plugins. Nothing in the log indicates it can't connect out. All I see is a line saying: Jun 11 22:09:47 Tower emhttp: /usr/local/sbin/plugin checkall 2>&1 I should note I tried rebooting the box, but that didn't help.
  6. I'm on rc4. UnRAID reports itself up-to-date when I check for updates. Any idea what would cause that?
  7. Indeed. Thanks for your help. Restarting the machines was enough to fix things. Out of curiosity, what's the different between marking a share "public" and running the script to allow anonymous access? I'm trying to remember why I used that script years ago. Thanks again.
  8. I should clarify a couple things: 1) When I say I can't access a share, what I mean is I get a message in Windows saying the share is unavailable. I never get a message saying my password is wrong. 2) If I go to a third machine that I literally just set up, things seem to work as I would expect. I can get read access to any share that isn't private, and if I try to access a private share I get asked for a different username/password. So, something odd is going on between my primary computers where I'm using a Windows account that matches the username/password for my unRAID server.
  9. I just upgraded my unRAID server from 4.7 to 6.0. I followed the 4.7-5.0 and 5.0-6.0 instructions carefully. I remembered to run the permission utility after the 5.0 upgrade, and I reformatted my drive to do the 6.0 upgrade. I did, however, copy back over my config and config/share folders. It seemed to go fine, but I'm having problems with permissions. Some of my shares are not accessible on my machines. And oddly, it varies by machine. I have two Windows machines with the same username/password accessing my unRAID server. I can get to one set of folders from my workstation, and a different set from my media server. For example, I can get to \Movies and \Television from my workstation, but not \flash. I can get to \flash from my server, but not \Movies or \Television. It's been a while since I set up my old 4.7 box, so I'm not completely sure what I did to get things working before. While I don't remember doing this, I did find the anonymous.sh script on my flash drive, so I assume I ran it at one point to get anonymous shares working. As of right now, (almost) all of the shares are marked security level "Public." I tried making one of them "secure" and giving my unRAID username read/write access (the same username as my Windows login, except all lowercase), but it didn't change anything. My goals are to make sure \Television and \Movies (and probably \flash) are accessible from every machine on my network, including media streamers where I'm not going to want to enter a password. Sage and Plex (and associated clients) need to be able to access these folders. I have another set of shares, like \Backups, that I would like password protected- at least for writes, and probably for read. I have a final set of shares, like \Pictures, that I would like to give everything on my network read access to, but preferably not write. Suggestions? It seems like it should be a natural use of public vs. secure vs. private shares, but nothing I do seems to change the behavior at all. And I have no idea what I need to do to make \flash accessible from my workstation (and am rather confused why its somehow accessible from my server using the same username).
  10. How much will unRAID write cache to memory? With memory prices where they are today, 16GB of RAM looks like a pretty good alternative to a cache drive. For most of us, I would expect ~25GB blu ray rips are the biggest things we move around on a regular basis. You'd probably get pretty close to moving that at full speed with close to 16GB of RAM to use as a cache. PAE would be fine for that use case, except my understanding is that unRAID is a little buggy on systems with more than 4GB of RAM.
  11. Is the plan still for unRAID to move this this new GUI? It doesn't look like there's been any activity over on github for a couple months. Is there a page that explains the benefits of the new GUI? Based on prostuff1's message, it sounds like it won't deal with the problem of the existing web admin page being pretty finicky about only handling one request at a time. Is it just prettier, or does it offer some other features? Also, is there a way to uninstall it? Do you just delete webGui-latest.plg?
  12. The new Lime Tech servers apparently use that model, so presumably it will get good support... I'm not entirely sure I understand the install procedure, but I'm pretty sure I can figure it out from this thread. I am curious about whether or not I need to (or should) pull the SATA cables connected to other controllers before flashing the firmware on this one.
  13. The AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 is a x8 card, right? I have a x16 slot in my server. I think I also have a x16 physical slot running at x4, in addition to a couple x1 slots. The SuperMicro card ought to run in the x16 slot. Anyways, I'm not overly concerned about cost. I don't want to go hunting on eBay, or even go to less well-known sites. I'd very much prefer a plug-and-play install, although a one-time setup isn't that big of deal. So, assuming I'm perfectly happy to spend around $100 on a card, what's the best one to get?
  14. I'm thinking about buying the same controller... Would you recommend it, despite the problems you had? Did all of you pull your SATA cables before flashing the firmware? It seems like that shouldn't be necessary.
  15. I'm still looking for a decent, "safe" 2-port PCIe SATA controller. From what I understand, SIL3132 is potentially problematic. I can't tell from recent posts whether the RocketRAID 620 requires a special script or not. Rocket 620, at least, appears to require a script on unRAID 4.7 (which I'm still on), but I'm not sure whether that's required for more recent versions. I'll probably go to unRAID v5 relatively soon (as in, likely before I add drives), but I'm watching a couple of the new issues in the Issue List folder.
