  1. Just purchased 4 of them... %$#@ these guys for giving me a second chance at spending money. This will bump my server up to 16TB from 10TB. Two more drives to replace, but that will come in due time. My wallet needs a break. ...until I start my vSphere/unRAID project.
  2. tinkererguy, thanks for the awesome tutorials. Your tutorials have taken a lot of pain out of building a home vSphere lab.
  3. I actually have a small UPS connected up to it, the cable modem, and the 24 port switch. Gotta have that so I can always have a phone line and internet during a power outage. I'm lazy, but not that lazy
  4. Looks like we have another fool trying to download the internet. I do wonder what someone could actually do with that much storage in a home environment. Did he point-out any of his software-side objectives?
  5. Yeah, I even had one for it, but since I've been in a long process of moving stuff around and cleaning up my home network, it had fallen to the way side. Thankfully besides this recent issue, I have been very lucky with my server. The worst part is the 4+ hour parity checks on my 10TB setup. I can easily say it is more manageable than my coffee maker.
  6. Just a minute ago, I went to turn on my unRAID server so I could copy off the syslog and magically (or not) everything worked this time. The webGUI, telnet, and shares are all there and it is currently completing a parity check. Anyways, I copied off the syslog just in case you were still interested. We'll see how it goes once I shut the server down and move it back to it's proper location in the basement. I am actually scared of the possibility of bringing it downstairs and having randomly not work again. Thankfully next time it will be on a fat UPS that should be able to withstand the very brief, but harsh Ohio summer storms. syslog.zip
  7. I'm sorry, after I readded the IP address and subnet, I was able to successfully ping the server from another machine. As far as I can tell the network interface is still good. Everything else is still down.
  8. My unRAID server is running on 4.7. Background Story: A heavy storm passed over and the power flickered for a second and unfortunately this was while I was away. I turned the server on and then proceeded to open up the server's webpage and the problem immediately with 404 error. I then tried to ping the server and it was unable to reply. I went to the server and ensured everything was visually okay with the hardware and it was so after restarting it a few times, I finally brought the server upstairs and connected it up to a keyboard and monitor and proceeded to check 'ifconfig eth0'. I found that the link was not up (it wasn't up or down) and that no IP was set. It's as if the unRAID OS was running but none of the actual processes were doing anything. I searched the forums and wiki and could not find anything related to this issue. I know you guys need to see my syslogs, but I am not sure how to get them off the system. If someone could help me with this issue it would be most appreciated. Also, since the flashdrive share is not accessible, could someone direct me on how to copy the files to the physical flash drive so I can offload them. Thanks, Jmac
  9. It's relatively quite since it is full of HDDs, but yeah it comes with rubber washers for mounting the disks so it's pretty nice. The only issue was actually getting the case since I wasn't able to find it in the USA. I believe I found it from a Canadian eStore. It definitely makes for a great server if you do not have a lot of room and you want a lot of storage.
  10. I assume you're referring to the logical unraid disk device slots under http://.../devices?
  11. Case: Fractal Array R2 Mini-ITX Computer Case Mobo: ZOTAC H55ITX-C-E Mini ITX Intel Motherboard Processor: Intel Core i3-560 3.33GHz LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor HDD(s): 6x WD20EARS PSU: Diablotek PHD Series PHD350 350W Power Supply RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Constructed: Feb, 2011 Yes it is probably OP for just being a file server, but I figure the parts will be good for something like a HTPC when I end up needing more space and upgrade the server in a year.
  12. I initially built my unRAID server based on a nice mini-itx mobo w/ an itx case that has 6 3.5 slots. Well boys, in less than a year I've run through my 10TB capacity and need to upgrade... lol. So this time I'm going to go big (like 40TB+) and build it based in a nice rackmount case. If I used a new motherboard, what do I need to do to keep the same unraid file system? Will changing motherboards destroy my array? I didn't notice any guides on migrating to new hardware (beyond the normal HDD additions). If someone knows of a guide or post that directly refers to the topic, please let me know. I'll definitely type up my experience and publish something to the wiki once I'm done with the process. Any replies are greatly appreciated, -Jmac
  13. Joe: Would the processes listed above copy the files over the array as a whole or just to the individual drives? My goal is to copy over all of my DVD fulldisc backups onto a share folder on the unRAID server called DVD_Movies. Should I copy the files over to the individual disks or to the share folders directly? When all is said and done, the approximate file size for the whole DVD_Movies share will be almost 2TB. Currently my setup has 6 drives (1 Parity, 1 Cache, and 4 Data Drives) and all of them are the WD 2TB Green Drives (EARS). Thanks for the support!
  14. Lifehacker.com posted up a very interesting guide to setting up an XBMC player, which also includes a paragraph on setting up an IR remote: http://lifehacker.com/5536963/the-ultimate-start-to-finish-guide-to-your-xbmc-media-center
  15. I recently created an unRAID server with x6 2TB drives w/ a cache drive and a parity drive. I would like to come up with a very fast method of transferring my media collection which is on a 1.5TB Seagate Freeagent Xtreme to the server without transferring the files over the network because those transfers only top out at 9mb/s. Has anyone come up with a method of connecting a USB drive to an unRAID server to allow easy offloading? I do not want to include the USB drive in the array, I only want to copy the files over to my array. (If this ever became a feature I think it would totally smoke-out the competition!!!) All help is much appreciated! -Jmac
