  1. SATA cable it is! After pulling the cable out at both ends then re-inserting, the problem went away as mysteriously as it surfaced. Thanks to all who spotted the problem and pointed me in the right direction!
  2. Running 4.7 with current drive setup for quite a number of months, during which time the server has been moved to various locations around the house and thus requiring shutdowns and restarts - all without issue, until now. Without any changes to the system verion, config, drives, or anything else, one of the data hard drives seems to have "grown" and now the system reports that the parity disk is no longer the biggest. I wanted to post a screen shot, and although the forum allowed me to browse to the image and select it, there was no button so "upload" or save or whatever. I am going to paste a good portion of my syslog here (trying to stay under 20K characters), and sorry for the length ... mod can delete if needed. I can't zip and upload for the same reason I can't upload images. Dec 19 22:02:13 Media syslogd 1.4.1: restart. Dec 19 22:02:13 Media kernel: klogd 1.4.1, log source = /proc/kmsg started. 3. Joe, that did the trick, at least to get the array back without undeletable files. I have a lost+found folder with 33 files in it which I'll sort through to attempt to figure out what they are and name them correctly. They are all mp3 songs which play, and appear to at least have tags. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction! 4. Thanks for that link, Joe. If that fails, can't I simply pull that drive out and replace it with a new one, allowing it to rebuild? Chris
  5. I'm worried you're right. I see that the Music share (which I've been cleaning out - deleting) is now limited to /mnt/disk3 out of 4 disks. I suspect that drive has issues. 6. 4.5.6 before, 4.6 AIO after, same results: I noticed I cannot delete several folders using my Win7 box, so I SSH'd into the server as root and was still unable to rm the directories or files within them. I wondered if there was a permission issue, and look what the permissions/ownership is set to: root@Media:/mnt/disk3/Music/Sade# ls -al /bin/ls: cannot access Flow #2.mp3: Permission denied total 0 drwx--x--x 2 root root 80 Jan 6 15:23 ./ drwx------ 7 root root 192 Jan 7 08:37 ../ ???? ? ? ? ? ? Flow\ #2.mp3 root@Media:/mnt/disk3/Music/Sade# rm -f Flow\ #2.mp3 rm: cannot remove `Flow #2.mp3': Permission denied I can't chmod or chown them, and there are no errors in the log. This has me baffled.
  7. Not sure if this is a practical idea, but I thought it would be nice if I could get the unRAID box to periodically "push" a list of files (contents) to a web page of my choosing. Let's say, for example, I have website.com on a Linux box with a page called music located at www.website.com/music. I'd like to be able to have unRAID send a listing of my Movies share to that web page somehow (using rsync maybe?). This would enable me to see/show a full list of my movies from remote locations, without having to expose the unRAID box to the internet with a web server. The idea is just to see the list, not actually stream any of them. Is this a crazy idea, or has anyone seen or heard of such a script or know an easy way to accomplish this? Or would it be easier to access the unRAID box from outside by putting it into the DMZ on the router, or using port forwarding?
  8. Yes! That was it - the lack of plugins. I vaguely recall during a late-night install, while tired, reading something about all those files beginning with numbers not being needed. I suppose I mis-interpreted whatever I was reading, and never copied them over. They simply were not in my flash drive, even though I had downloaeded them to my laptop. Following your instructions, everything is now working as expected, to include the vastly enhanced menu at the top/left corner - it now has many more options than I've previously seen. Thank you!
  9. I also believe someone once asked about the mount/unmount and share/unshare buttons in the Disk Mgmt screen. When I mount one of the extra drives, the button changes to unmount. However - when I share that same disk, the screen says it's sharing the disk but that button still shows the option to share it (as opposed to unshare it).
  10. Sorry, Joe - I think I totally missed those questions somehow. 1 - the (short) testparm output: root@Tower:~# testparm Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Can't find include file /boot/config/smb-extra.conf Processing section "[disk1]" Processing section "[disk2]" Processing section "[Movies]" Processing section "[Music]" Loaded services file OK. Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE Wondering if that missing include file has something to do with it? It's not in that directory at all. 2 - unMENU (.awk) version 1.2 3 - disk-management plug-in ... hmm, don't see that version anywhere. Where should I be looking? Under the Disk Mgmt screen, underneath the version information, there is a Plug-in-modules heading with nothing below it. 4 - unRAID version 4.5-beta13 For what it's worth, I currently have an external USB drive and an additional/unprotected SATA drive hooked up so I can move some movies over to the unRAID drives. Using Midnight Commander (or the console, or basic telnet commands) I can navigate to either drive in /mnt/disk/ ... they are showing up as sde1 and sdc1, respectively. I just can't see them from either Windows box (Win XP and Win 7), nor can I figure out how to browse to them (in case they are simply hidden). And I do have the option turned on to view hidden files. Thanks for helping!
  11. New revelation: Hooked up another drive via an unused SATA port on the motherboard, then mounted and shared with unMENU just like I did when using an external USB drive. From the console (or telnet) I can view the additional drive and copy from it, but from a Windows machine I cannot see the drive no matter where I look. Basically, this is the same mysterious behaviour as the external USB drive... mounted and browsable from console and telnet, but not from Windows.
  12. Have you tried to export the flash? Yes, and when I do I can see it fine. Can you see the USB disc on it's mount point with the console? Yes, it shows to be at /mnt/disk/sdd1 Are there any messages in the syslog re the USB? Nothing unusual - just normal stuff about registering, bus number, etc. Have you enabled explorer to show hidden and system fies? Yes, but it's still not listed. Only the two shares (Movies and Music). The flash drive shows up whenever I export it, too. This is with the latest beta (13) for the 4.5 series.
  13. I can see/browse the array disks fine, just not the external (unprotected) disks. Looking at the unRAID menu, I have the flash share not exported, and the disk shares (SMB) exported read/write hidden. Even when not hidden, the external disk didn't show up in the list. Also, the the disk shares (NFS) box is blank. Perhaps something goes into that empty box in order for this to work?
  14. That's one I tried, but no luck. And I did find that button and after mounting it, I shared it. There is even a "confirmation" message that tells me it's being shared (Sharing /dev/sdd1 as sdd1). Yet browsing to \\tower\sdd1 brings up a Windows error box something to the effect of not being able to find it and to check the spelling. I feel like I must be very close, and it's probably something quite obvious that I'm doing wrong... but currently it has me baffled.
  15. I meant to ask for clarification... about how to browse to the external USB drive in a Windows laptop. In other words, in the same way I type \\tower to browse to the tower, what would I type to get to the external drive? I've tried numerous things to no avail, like: \\tower\mnt\disk1\sdd1 , \\sdd1 , \\tower\disk1\sdd1 , \\tower\sdd1 etc
