Blade
I am in need of some 3TB hard drives to upgrade disks and add new ones. What hard drives are best to use? I have been looking at the Seagate ST3000DM001 3TB and the Toshiba DT01ACA300 3TB TIA Quote Link to comment
3605481mah
Scrap that Seagate model. I had 3 failed in 2 months. Another I replaced in prevention. Only 20000 hrs... Quote Link to comment
Blade
Good to know. Thanks What is the best 3TB HDD to use? Quote Link to comment
trurl
4TB vs 3TB is about the same $/TB now. I think I would consider 4TB for new purchases. Quote Link to comment
tdallen
I've had good luck with my 3 WD Red 3TB drives. Quote Link to comment
Blade
Anyone have any experience with the WD WD30EZRX drives? Quote Link to comment
garycase
I've used a lot of 3TB WD Reds (~ a dozen), and have also installed a couple of the EZRX units for friends. The WD30EZRX drives are fine ... if you don't want to pay the extra for an extra year's warranty, they work fine. Same areal density; same power draw => should have virtually identical performance. Personally, I think the extra year's warranty is worth the nominal price difference, but that's a personal choice. Quote Link to comment
Blade
Thanks The warranty on the WD30EZRX says 2 year limited. What does the limited mean? Quote Link to comment
garycase
All hard drive warranties say that -- it just means it's not warranted if the failure is your fault ... i.e. if you drop it; nuke it with 120v; pound it with a sledgehammer; etc. Nothing to be concerned with. Quote Link to comment
