unmenu UPS support - control/shutdown a 2nd PC?

Recommended Posts

hi,

brand new to UPSs, had an unRAID array for quite a while now (unmenu installed)

I have just ordered a BR1500G Back-UPS Pro

http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1500G

(haven't got it yet, nor have I ever used one before)

what I am wondering is, apart from allowing the add-on package in unRAID to gracefully shutdown my unRAID tower, can I - at the same time - signal my Windows 7 PC to also shutdown? If so what would be the configuration (software and cabling).

Thanks!

m

Easy... see here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1528.msg27123#msg27123

the apcupsd software, once installed on unRAID will transmit automatically to other PCs on your LAN.  If you install the window's version of apcupsd on those PCs, they will shut down too.  (perfect for shutting down a laptop that might otherwise drain its batteries)

Get the windows version here : http://www.apcupsd.com/

awesome! - thanks Joe

I assume this also means I will have no need to install the APC PowerChute software on my Windows box then?

(*unless I want my PC to respond to the UPS directly of course)

cheers,

correct. No need to install PowerChute at all.
