emhttp segfault

Recommended Posts

Hi There

using 5.0beta6a here, with 3 2TB HDs

I just bought an unraid pro key

dropped the .key file to the config folder

spun up the HDs

when I pressed the stop array button, connection dropped with the server

via telnet, I got this from syslog

May 25 10:17:20 Tower kernel: emhttp[1086]: segfault at 0 ip 08050579 sp bfb11120 error 4 in emhttp[8048000+15000]

the server was running stable for days, parity check OK

the server has ECC memory and everything..

is there something wrong ? is there anything I can do to prevent it ?

thanks

What packages are you installing?

and you called your unRAID box freenas...

Link to comment

No packages installed.  Out of the box stock.  I am a refugee from freenas and all my clients know it by that name, it saved me from reconfiguring them all; sorry for any heresy.

I really don't care what you named you unRAID box, I just found it interesting that it was called that.

As for the segfault, can't really help there since you don't have any packages installed.

Did anyone have any luck fixing this problem? I still can't use my front end and am doing crude management through the command line.  Right now, I am regretting paying for my Pro licence and wouldn't recommend it to others.

I am running a Pro license on a few of my builds and it is working fine.

You should be able to type this at the command prompt:

/etc/rc.d/rc.unRAID stop

and then

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

to restart it.

Thanks for the reply.  I do not seem to have the rc.unRAID script you are referring to.  Here is what happens when I try to start emhttp:

root@freenas:/usr/local/sbin# ./emhttp&
[1] 30004
root@freenas:/usr/local/sbin#
[1]+  Segmentation fault      ./emhttp
root@freenas:/usr/local/sbin# tail -10 /var/log/syslog

I'm certain that /etc/rc.d/rc.unRAID is NOT part of the stock unRAID in either the 4.7 series or the 5.0beta series.

It is part of one of the user-add-ons if it exists.  (I think part of the powerdown add-on)

In addition, on my  server, it does not stop emhttp.  (that line in the rc.unRAID script is commented out)

I had the same problem and solved it (for me!).

Are you using ESET? If so, see http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=18333.0

No ESET here.. Just unraid, simple features, plex and sabnzbd accessed through Safari on a Mac. Been fine for months, and then today, no GUI. So I restarted emhttp and immediately get this...

Any word from a dev on this? Tom? Any ideas?

Turns out this has affected my little b14 box (unlicensed), and both of my buddies. Just they didn't notice because the boxes usually hum along wo incident.

Anyone have any clue why this only affects some of us? 43 days up and it worked this morning because I was checking a disk temp during a large copy. Then tonight I went to check how much space I had left and .... Nothing except the segfault in the logs.

After a very shaky rebook, things seem to be working again. My array would not start and I kept getting segfaults in emhttp, so I shut down, pulled the flash drive and tried a diskcheck on it. No errors found, plugged it back and and rebooted... after a parity check and a one more segfault I managed to get a clean reboot and it's ok now.

I'd love to know what causes this so i can try and prevent it. My other system is still continuously segfaulting, but I'm in the process of wiping it completely clean and putting a fresh b14 on it. I'll probably be over to look at my buddies systems this weekend.

Sigh.  Problem has returned.  What else could it be?  Bad flash stick?
