kleptonite
I have just noticed that 4 errors have been recorded in the smart history report. They are recorded twice, once as an ATA Error Count and again as an UDMA CRC Error count Are these errors significant at this stage? The disk is ~ 1 yr old. Should I consider replacing the disk? I am attaching a syslog and a smartctl report syslog-2012-09-28.txt smart.2012-09-28.txt Quote Link to comment
dgaschk
The last error occurred almost 3000 hours ago. This drive is fine unless there are additional symptoms. Quote Link to comment
Joe L.
The last error occurred almost 3000 hours ago. This drive is fine unless there are additional symptoms. CRC errors are those detected in communicating with the disk over the SATA cable. To fix those (if constantly occurring) you would need to replace the SATA cable, or re-seat it so it makes good contact, or, as likely re-route it so it does not pick up noise from other nearby cables. CRC errors are not usually the disk itself, but noisy communications with it. Have you neatly tie-wrapped all the SATA cables, if so, bad idea... looks great, but if not shielded cables, they can induce noise in one another. The solution is to not let them be bundled tightly with other cables. Joe L. Quote Link to comment
