RobJ
I have moved the USB to my windows 7 laptop, when execute make_bootable.bat is got a error.... now I see this error message, sorry is in Swedish my USB have label UNRAID! Make Bootable Volymen i enhet I har etiketten UNRAID Volymens serienummer är 081F-6D07 Error: volume label must be UNRAID Tryck ned valfri tangent för att fortsätta... The batch file is looking for the 'label', is it possible that the word is different in your Swedish version of the OS? You can either modify the batch file for the right word, or you can try running this on an english machine? Quote Link to comment

tyrindor
Not sure if intended (EDIT: Looks like it was according to the other thread) but the 4GB limit will not happen on a normal boot of unRAID with the settings you put in syslinux.cfg. You have to manually select "4GB Limit" when unRAID boots. Also, the upgrade notes do not say to copy syslinux.cfg. This setup forces the 4GB limit into the default boot: default menu.c32 menu title Lime Technology LLC prompt 0 timeout 50 label unRAID OS menu default kernel bzimage append mem=4095M initrd=bzroot label Memtest86+ kernel memtest Quote Link to comment
optiman
That link was to my post / issue in the RC10 thread. I had the slow webgui and share issue on the first boot. However, I was not able to reproduce the error, so I didn't bother with the syslog. My rig boots up like normal, and I have no idea why the first boot to rc10-test took a long time to boot. Party on rc10-test just finished, Duration: 12 hours, 3 minutes, 44 seconds. Average speed: 69.1 MB/sec - looks about the same as before for my rig. Dang rc11 is out now so I will upgrade to that today and report back. Quote Link to comment

optiman
ok, going from rc10-test to rc11. When I upgraded to rc10-test, I had to run the make_boot.bat file and run New Perm, copy the two main files and the syslinux.cfg file to get it to boot. To go to rc11 from here, do I need to do all of that again, or just swap the two main files like the good ole days? Quote Link to comment
BLKMGK
So it looks like I need to update vmTools, I have the SimpleFeatures mod installed as well as iostat, and maybe one or two other. I cannot update it easily right now and shares appeared to work so hopefully all will function while I'm away from home. Don't think I'll need the large memory but will look at that too. Fun stuff! :-) Quote Link to comment

No need to repeat running make_bootable, it's a one time thing that may be needed at some point during the series of v5 upgrades. Some users never needed to do it. Quote Link to comment
peter_sm
Need to remove powernow-k8 But is built in know, what is the code to disable this ? modprobe -r powernow-k8 FATAL: Module powernow_k8 is builtin //Peter Quote Link to comment
limetech
Need to remove powernow-k8 Why? The reason I changed these to built-ins is that on my X9SCL early in boot process it tries to load acpi_cpufreq, but for some reason it can't find the device, but later manually installing the module works. These kinds of ordering issues are rampant with linux systems for some reason and I didn't want to waste a day trying to chase down the problem. Quote Link to comment
limetech
Btw spaces do not work, you will need to convert them to/from newlines for the vsftpd.user_list file and you are not apparently doing it. I would have sworn it worked with multiple usernames per line, but you're right it doesn't. Fixed in -rc11a. Quote Link to comment
peter_sm
Need to remove powernow-k8 Why? Earlier with my X2 CPU, I DL very slow from usenet, disable this I got full speed, but now I'm on X4 CPU, need to verify if this is still a issue for me, but I can't do it right now, I let you know later. perhaps can disable this in BIOS if it's needed ? //Peter Quote Link to comment

Might want to set the "oom_score_adj" value to -1000 in /proc/$PID/oom_score_adj to keep it from being idle the longest, and prime target for the kernel oom process killer. One user did something like this in their config/go script after emhttp was invoked to keep it from being killed when memory was exhausted. pgrep -f "/usr/local/sbin/emhttp" | while read PID; do echo -1000 > /proc/$PID/oom_score_adj; done It may not hang or die, but it sure gets killed a lot because it is the most idle.
