Included/Excluded - exclusive?

Recommended Posts

If I create a share and specify an Included disk, does that automatically exclude the others, or to do this do i have to maintain both fields (Included and Excluded) so they contain a complete list of all disks (including news ones as they are added)?

I'm thinking of have my audio share be limited to 1 drive, so when I'm streaming audio files all the other drives can spin down. Please let me know if this does not make sense.

thanks

John

Yes, if these fields are not 'blank' then they are exclusive.  So if you define "Included disks" to be say "disk4-5" then only disk4 and disk5 will be used.  Similar, if you set "Excluded disks" to say "disk1", then all disks except "disk1" will be used.

Limiting audio to a single disk to permit spindown of other disks is a major reason the "Included/Excluded" disks field were created!  So for your audio share you would set "Included disks" to the desired disk (leave "Excluded disks" blank), and on all the other shares, you would set "Excluded disks" to the disk used for the audio share (and leave "Included disks" blank).

Added to the FAQ, here, includes a link back to here.  Feel free to edit or expand.

In that FAQ entry, links were included to the appropriate parts of the UnRAID Manual, but it would be nice to be able to link directly to the Included and Excluded disk(s) section.  It just needs the wiki source in that part to be changed to use headings, use equal signs instead of apostrophes.
