Rudy81
I just installed the 5.0.6 version from scratch after having played around with a 5.0 beta version. Had to do a lot of catching up since I previously used simple features. I must say, you have done a terrific job of adding to and improving the simple features functionality! The only issue I have run into thus far is a browser page freezing problem on Chrome when making changes to the Email Notifications utility. Running version 2.1.3 of that plugin. All other plugins work very well and have not had any other issues. Well done, and thank you. Link to comment

barrygordon
I just got back to unRaid as I need to do some work on it, I.e. Set up nfs on a few shares. My unRaid system has been up and running for over 450 days without a stop, issue or problem. I am running 5.0 rc11 with simple features 1.0.11. I use unRaid to store all my movies, music, backups, etc. I would like to upgrade to dynamix and have been to the github and read the Readme. I just have one question. Do I have to do anything to get rid of simple features? And if so what. As I said I have not touched my system in a long time and at my age one forgets a lot. Link to comment

bonienl
Wow, over 450 days non-stop, very impressive There are two possible routes to follow for your upgrade path and in both cases you need to uninstall SimpleFeatures: a) Upgrade to unRAID v5.0.6 - this requires additional installation of Dynamix (and optional plugins) b) Upgrade to unRAID v6b12 - this has Dynamix webGui built-in, optional plugins need to be installed separately To remove SimpleFeatures do the following steps 1) Telnet into your system 2) rm -rf /boot/plugins/simpleFeatures 3) rm -rf /boot/config/simpleFeatures 4) If you are not running any other plugins it is safe to remove /boot/packes otherwise do a selective clean-up or jusr leave it alone 5) Reboot your system from the webGui (stop array -> reboot) This brings back the stock webGui of unRAID. From here you can choose your upgrade path (see options above). Link to comment
barrygordon
Thank you both for the speedy replies. The only reason the unRaid system has only been up for only 450 days is I had to change out a UPS, and that required me to shutdown the rack. Only Commercial UPS's seem to have a methodology for swapping out a UPS with out a power interruption. Not an easy task as AC systems have to be synchronized if I remember my Power labs in EE school. I will look into the 5.0.6 upgrade. I am assuming that is the final 5.0.x release or the current stable one. As I said the only reason I want to do this is for nfs support so I can try XBMC with nfs instead of smb. The consensus seems to be that nfs is significantly faster and will provide a smoother video stream. Link to comment
Frank1940
As I said the only reason I want to do this is for nfs support so I can try XBMC with nfs instead of smb. The consensus seems to be that nfs is significantly faster and will provide a smoother video stream. My experience is that the latest versions of SMB have reduced the overhead to the point where you can't tell any difference between the two. NFS is a bit more difficult to set up on both ends as you have to have stable IP addresses. (Of course, if you are running an older version of SMB on the non unRAID end, unRAID SMB will fall back to that version...) Link to comment
Rudy81
Today I have experienced some odd problems with Dynamix. Some of the pages, such as e-mail and s-3, cause the GUI to freeze and I have to reboot UnRaid. Since this is a new install, I decided to re-install the system from scratch, get a good 5.0.6 working GUI and then upgrade to Dynamix, carefully following the instructions on the bergware page. The basic Dynamix GUI comes up just fine and works well. I then added the plugin control module and plan to add other plugins from that module. During the installation of the plugin control module, I get an error message in the Telnet session that indicates a Warning and a problem loading something. I am attaching a screenshot. Will this cause any problems? I have now rebooted and do see the plugin control module. Link to comment
bonienl
This error means the downloaded plugin file is in the wrong format. When getting files from github you need to download a "raw" version. Go to the PLG file you want to download and have it opened in github, then right-click on the button "raw" and select "save link as". Link to comment
Rudy81
This error means the downloaded plugin file is in the wrong format. When getting files from github you need to download a "raw" version. Go to the PLG file you want to download and have it opened in github, then right-click on the button "raw" and select "save link as". I started again from just the GUI and did as you instructed. That time, the installation went well and completed with no errors. Not sure what I did wrong the first time. I followed the instructions under the heading "Optional Plugins" and right clicked, save as, the link listed. Thank you. Link to comment
Rudy81
Well, spoke too soon....again. The GUI and plugin module installation and operation was fine. I then proceeded to install a few of the plugins, via the Dynamix console and started having freezing with the GUI again. The problems has started for me when making changes in the e-mail, cache directories, and S-3 modules. Not always, not at the same time....strange. I have been at this process for over a day and am worn our trying to get everything to work properly. For now I'm waving the white flag. For the time being have gone back to the basic 5.0.6 GUI and the array is working just fine. Not sure where the problem lies, but taking too much time. Lot's of those features in Dynamix seem nice to have, but on my system it has been troublesome to get it to work properly. Thank you for your help. I'll revisit this option at a later date. bonienl
Maybe easiest is to download these two zip files 1. webGui https://github.com/bergware/dynamix/raw/master/download/dynamix.webgui.zip 2. plugin control https://github.com/bergware/dynamix/raw/master/download/dynamix.plugin.control.zip Unzip (1) and place the file in /boot/plugins Unzip (2) and place the file in /boot/config/plugins Reboot your system and both webGui and plugin control should get installed. From plugin control you can install other optional plugins using the GUI. Link to comment

barrygordon
I just did the upgrade to version 5.0.6 with the dynamix plugin installed as per the instructions I found (downloaded two zip files from github and put the contents of one in /boot/plugins, and one in /boot/config/plugins) During the boot process the console reported a lot of warning messages pertaining to certificate names and authority, but the boot completed by finally running my GO script. I http'ed into the Tower and was greeted by the Dynamix system. Very Nice!! It took me a few minutes to feel my way around but no issues I am just curious about all the warning messages. I assume they might be in the syslog and if someone tells me how to retrieve them I can post them. Thanks for all the assistance Barry Link to comment
