nate1749
I'm wondering if it's at all possible to have a command prompt from the web interface - and if not, does anyone know how to remotely connect to a server other than a KVM option. My unraid server is headless so it's a pain to drag a monitor and keyboard to it to get a command prompt (to do things such as change permissions). W/my 2K3 Server I just use remote desktop, I'm pretty poor w/linux so I'm not sure if there's an easy way to do a remote connection or if there's a plugin out there that will give me a virtual console. jk2587
Use telnet... Unless you're on vista or windows 7 telnet is already part of windows. Just open a command prompt and type: telnet <ipaddress> obviously replacing <ipaddress> with the actual ip address of your server. Quote Link to comment
BRiT
If you are on Vista or Windows 7, you can install telnet easily. Start Menu, Control Panel, Program and Features, Turn Windows features on or off, Telnet Client (ensure it's checked/selected), Click OK You now have telnet client installed. Quote Link to comment

prostuff1
Is there a way to do this on a Mac? Can you use Terminal to log into the Tower? Yes, just go to terminal and type: telnet the.ip.address.here it should work just fine. There are also some instructions on how to make it work so that you can type telnet nameofserver Quote Link to comment
William
Thanks, that works (at least the IP part). Quote Link to comment

Joe L.
You probably need administrative permission to enable telnet. I'd just install putty. It is far better than the telnet client built into windows. get it from here: http://www.putty.org/ Quote Link to comment
