starcat
Hi there, have anyone tried VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads on unRAID? Any thoughts? Quote Link to comment
bubbaQ
I use it all the time for transcoding and building indexes. But I run unRAID on a full Slackware install. Quote Link to comment

musicmann
Hi there, have anyone tried VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads on unRAID? Any thoughts? I think it's possible. When I looked at it versus VMware Server a while back, I think VBox required the unRAID kernel to be recompiled. I think it requires something called "System V" support which wasn't compiled into the unRAID kernel at the time. I don't know if this has changed (on either the Vbox or the unRAID side), but if you're willing to recompile the kernel, it should definitely be possible. I went with VMware mostly because it could be run on a stock unRAID kernel. Quote Link to comment
bubbaQ
It needs SysV IPC (inter-process communications) enabled. Quote Link to comment
starcat
Thanks, guys! Any other pros and cons between both? Speed, memory footprint, functionality and ease of install... Quote Link to comment
Guest smnas
I'd go for VMware Server, seems that VMware is more wide-spread in the VM environment these days than any other VM platform, plus this forum has heaps of tips and tricks to get VMware Server up and running on a unRAID server.
