UNRAID V6 unable to connect to hostname SMB or GUI of server

Howdy

Scratching my head on this and need some guidance

My DSL Modem/Router was replaced with a DSL Modem in bridge mode and we just installed a TPLink router

For some reason I can no longer access my server smb shares via \\tower or the GUI setup

I can how ever access stuff using the IP

I am unable to ping the hostnames though

This has cause some trouble as it somehow affects my access to my shares with my TV to set boxes and I no longer see Tower in Network places of my windows machine not sure why.

Need some guidance on this one

If things work normally when you use IP addresses but don't with names then the problem is one of name resolution. Have you re-booted your devices since replacing your router? The first thing you should do is shut everything down, then power up your modem and router, then your unRAID server then your other items.

When rebooting the entire network, it VERY important that you start your server first and wait for about five minutes before starting anything else!  Wait a minute of two between the restarting of the other devices.  SMB was designed in ancient times (80386 processors were the hottest thing around) and the polling times of SMB can be minutes!  IT can take up to a half hour for the entire system to become stable.

If you still have a problem, you should read through this thread and see if any of the suggestions in it will solve your problem.  (Please understand that it is best if you have your server as the Local Master for SMB network and leave that server on 24-7.)

It is best to have the unRAID server act as the master browser.  If you have vlans set up on unRAID, you will have a lot of problems unless unRAID is the master browser.  Setting unRAID as the master browser under SMB Settings will now force unRAID to win the election for master browser.

Just because you have set it to be master doesn't mean it is. Do you have the Dynamix Local Master plugin installed? If so, what do you have for Settings - SMB - Workgroup Settings - Current elected master?

Do you actually have a Domain Master server setup?  (It is my understanding that your unRAID server cannot function as a Domain Master.)

The domain master = yes was from another internet suggestion that did not seem to help

Should I remove it?

Turl I do have that App installed and it tells me Tower is master

I am really stuggling my on android box will not show me the love and connect to my maridb

Since we haven't yet I guess we might as well ask for Tools - Diagnostics.

On Setup|Basic Setup

* Enable DHCP server

* Enable DNSMasq for DHCP

 

On Services|Services

* Set Used Domain to "LAN & WLAN"

* Set LAN Domain to some value (e.g., "OurLANd")

* Under Static Leases

- Click "Add" to get one or more new row(s)

- Enter the MAC Address, Host Name, and IP Address in each blank row

- (Important) Scroll down and click "Apply Settings"

 

You can reboot or power cycle the router, or just wait for the old leases to expire and the new, static IP assignments to take hold. Either way, go to Status|LAN to see the lists of Active and DHCP clients.

Okay I believe this suggestion has made it so I can see my server with host name and access it with a hostname.  Have no idea why though

I am still have some trouble with getting my one android box to update it libary.

I really want to put a big thanks for all that replied at this point.  Think we may say this is solved
