Need Nic Advice on older UnRAID Server

Hi

 

is the Intel PWLA8391GTL not a 1gbe ? would that not be the same speeds as your getting now, unless am totally missing something eg your bonding 2 together or something ? would a 10Gbe setup be better like the one below i got posted

PWLA8391GTL is a gigabit (1000mbps) card. The op has a fast ethernet onboard connection (100mbps). Assuming the router/switch they are using is gigabit, then they will achieve faster transfer speeds on the network.

 

the 10gbe setup you posted would only be point to point (between the server and computer) and have no direct network access at 10gbe speeds unless you buy a 10gbe switch to connect them.

You might consider replacing the motherboard / CPU with something more modern. It's been a LONG time since MBs came with 10/100! Used to be a slow cpu was recommended as unRaid was just a nas and didn't need strong processing performance. But how times have changed! An updated motherboard, CPU, and generous memory compliment would open up a whole new world to you with your unRaid server.
